CÔTE BASQUE RECORDING STUDIO & MAGIC BUSS MOBILE
The fundamental relationship between a great recording studio and truly great music is already fully established and has delivered the best and most successful popular music of the 20th century.
Whilst following this tradition closely, Côte Basque Studios are unique in many ways. The main studio occupies a huge 8,500 sq. ft site, hidden deep in the English countryside, and is possibly the largest purpose-built studio created in Europe for the last 20 years, or so. The studio offers 48 track analogue recording (favoured!), or multi-channel digital recording (boring!), with dedicated in-house mastering, editing, tape baking, full archiving, storage and multi-format copying facilities.
The recording facilities offer vintage quality and modern convenience. Centered around a custom 48 buss Raindirk Symphony console, fitted with the only dedicated, analogue 5.1 mixing system we know of in the world, the studios are a paradise of funky vintage and valve technology. More than 100 mics, many from London's historic IBC Studios ("Tommy", Hendrix, Beatles, etc ...), together with the very first Calrec Soundfield, and countless other cheesy and grungy '50's & '60's recording relics, are paired with enough modern, hi-tech whizzo spec digi-kit, to satisfy al the new-age nerds out there.
The live room is huge, with a beautiful Bechstein Concert Grand, several Hammonds, 7 Leslies!, a collection of over 50 vintage guitars and amps, and lots of relevant Rock & Roll history - The Stones' first bass guitar, a genuine 1965 Marshall Bluesbreaker combo, Brian Jones' Harmony amp and Stevie Winwood's Hammond - the list goes on.
And parked behind the studios, like some early ‘50s’ space-ship, is the famous Ronnie Lane Moblie Airstream studio, renamed The Magic Buss. Significant? Most certainly!... responsible for recording "Houses of the Holy", "Quadrophenia", countless "Faces" and "Stones recordings and many others. The Magic Buss has been extensively re-fitted and is now fully digital for music recording, with superb, fixed, communications systems and on-board film and video links, making it perfect for any site and location events, which require a "one box" fix. Affordable, funky and fully spec’ed, it's technically superb and spiritually unique. We can even put the old Olympic 3M 24 track recorders in it to make your rhythm tracks REALLY kick...
